Nothing says ‘quintessential Britain’ more than the sight of a traditional pub set in front of a stunning countryside backdrop.
Step forward an historic establishment in the Yorkshire Dales with views to die for – and a venue that even offers punters a room for the night. Revealed on TikTok by The Yorkshireman (@the.yorkshireman), hidden gem the Green Dragon Inn can be found in the village of Hardraw in the heart of the Dales’ National Park.
As well as the fine ales and freshly cooked classic pub grub it has to offer, the Green Dragon Inn somewhat uniquely boasts its own waterfall. “It’s long been a Dales favourite,” The Yorkshireman explained. “Dating back to the 13th century, the pub maintains tons of its original features.”
Offering a glimpse of the lounge, The Yorkshireman panned the camera around the stone room to showcase its stunning fireplace and classic furniture. “One of the best parts – you can actually stay over,” they added after making their way upsatirs to reveal rooms with a much more modern approach.
With views of fields and local wildlife on offer, The Yorkshireman continued: “Many rooms have been lovingly refurbished, overlooking the stunning countryside and village of Hardraw. But our favourite part about staying here is soaking up the pub’s atmosphere.”
He added: “Stocking local beers aplenty and boasting multiple open fireplaces, the pub is as cosy as can be and is the perfect spot to hide away this autumn.” Next, The Yorkshireman sampled the pub’s menu, revealing some of the finest “hearty Yorkshire scran” it had to offer along with pies, fish and chips and other pub classics.
The Yorkshireman then unveiled the site’s pièce de résistance – heading over a bridge to capture footage of a beautiful waterfall emerging from the rocky terrain. “Tucked away just a short walk behind the pub is Hardraw Force – the highest single drop waterfall in the country making this an absolute sight to behold.”
He also advised: “Make sure you check out what bands they have on as well as they have a great new event space in the back!”
Scores of TikTok users were quick to respond the video, echoing The Yorkshireman’s glowing review. “I visited earlier this year, wonderful place,” one person said. “Went to the waterfall and had some lovely walk’s beautiful place.”
“Used to camp round the back of there in the 90s used to be a communal fire pit area had some amazing weekends there,” recalled a second. A third penned: “We walked to this pub from Hawes a few years back! Then to the waterfalls amazing stuff, never tried the food but it looks great.”
And a fourth detailed their plans: “Love the Green Dragon, off there in 2 weeks. Great circular from Hawes up to Simonstone Hotel, down to Green Dragon and across fields into Hawes.”
