‘Picturesque’ village is one of this year’s top staycation destinations | Travel News | Travel

Already dreaming of next year’s holiday? If a staycation is top of the bucket list, there are a few gorgeous spots to explore in the UK.

According to research from home2go.uk there are several spots across the UK that have soared in popularity over the last year.

One of this year’s most in demand staycation destinations is Glenridding, a pretty village on the shores of Lake Ullswater.

It’s a popular destination for hikers, many of whom stay in the village to attempt to scale Helvellyn, England’s third-highest mountain.

Tourists who are more into the water than hiking might prefer to join a boat trip on Lake Ullswater to see some of the region’s best sites.

One of the best places to reach by boat is the Aira Force waterfall, a 65 foot drop concealed within woodland.

Glenridding is also a fantastic base for tourists who want to explore the wider Lake District area.

The Lake District was one of the UK’s most popular regions, with Kendal also a leading destination on home2go.uk.

Britons looking for a UK city break might prefer to head to Norwich, which saw an 80 percent increase in searches over the year.

When it comes to a coastal break, Tynemouth was one of the most in-demand seaside towns.

Orkney was high on the list in Scotland with Neolithic sites, such as Skara Brae, sparking interest among tourists.
